Must Try Holiday Cocktails

Holiday cocktails

The holiday season’s cold weather, time off from work and gatherings full of friends and family make it the perfect time to enjoy some much deserved cocktails! With all the busyness of this time of year, however, treat yourself to something a little more indulgent than just a beer or a basic mimosa. Read below to see some of the Holiday Road staff’s favorite holiday cocktail recipes!

Eggnog

Starting off we have a traditional Christmas classic- eggnog! While this cocktail’s dairy-filled richness is not for everybody, it still remains synonymous with the holiday season!

YOU’LL NEED:

  • 2 eggs, separated

  • 1/4 cup sugar, divided

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1/2 cup rum, bourbon or brandy (bourbon is considered the authentic eggnog recipe)

  • grated nutmeg for a garnish

STEPS:

  1. Beat the egg yolks with 3 tablespoons of the sugar in a bowl until light and airy.
  2. In the same bowl, add in the milk, heavy cream and your preferred liquor.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar until soft peaks form.
  4. Add the egg whites into the yolk mixture.
  5. Divide between glasses.
  6. Garnish all glasses with grated nutmeg and serve.

Winter Mai Tai

Are you less fond of the Winter months and wishing you were somewhere warm and tropical? This holiday twist on the classic Mai Tai is the perfect fix! By combining the elements of a typical Mai Tai with seasonal additions you’ll be able to escape to an island paradise after just one sip! Best of all, the Winter Mai Tai is a simple recipe that requires little preparation but does not hold back on flavor.

YOU’LL NEED:

  • 12 Oz Pineapple Juice – preferably the freshest possible!
  • 12 Oz Orange Juice – again, look for the freshest. Either with or without pulp works too
  • 6 Oz Dark Rum
  • 6 Oz Amaretto
  • Crushed Ice

STEPS: As stated earlier the beauty of this recipe is you do not need to sacrifice taste for ease. Simply combine all ingredients in a large pitcher or punch bowl and serve over ice in cocktail glasses.

Christmas Martini

Martinis are well loved thanks to their unique taste and versatility. There are dozens of martini variations, but none more fitting for the holiday season than the Christmas martini. Christmas martinis contain cranberry juice making them similar in taste to a Cosmo. While this recipe is for a single serving Christmas Martini it can also be increased to make larger portions for groups!

YOU’LL NEED:

  • 1 Oz Cranberry juice (unsweetened is preferred)
  • 1 Oz Vodka
  • 1/2 Oz Cointreau
  • 1/2 Oz Lemon juice (the fresher the better!)
  • 2 Tsp Simple syrup (maple syrup is a popular substitute as well)
  • A cocktail shaker

STEPS:

  1. Add vodka, cranberry juice, Cointreau, lemon juice, and syrup to your cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until cold.
  2. Strain the mixture into a glass.
